As a nature photographer, I was tired of juggling multiple apps just to check conditions before heading out. I wanted one simple tool that shows weather, nearby bird sightings, and what's blooming, without clutter or interpretation. FocusedZen is that tool: fast, clean, and built for people who just want to know what's out there.
Bird sightings in the Birds tab include nearby data from the eBird API 2.0. eBird is run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Nature sighting data is sourced from iNaturalist, a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. iNaturalist is a community-driven platform where people around the world share observations of plants, animals, fungi, and more. All sighting data shown in FocusedZen comes from the iNaturalist API.
Weather and air quality data is provided by Open-Meteo, a free and open-source weather API. This includes forecasts, PM2.5, PM10, and pollen data via the Air Quality API. No API key required, no tracking.
Location names are resolved using Nominatim, a geocoding service built on OpenStreetMap data. © OpenStreetMap contributors.
FocusedZen uses your device's location to show relevant weather and nearby sightings. Your location is sent to the services listed above to fetch data. For eBird data inside the Birds tab, requests are proxied through the local FocusedZen server so your eBird API key stays out of the browser. Your location is not stored, logged, or used for analytics.
